Muhammad Mansari - Visual Essay
A visual essay for Jericho Road Community Health Center about Muhammad, a young patient in the sickle cell clinic at the Adama Martha Memorial Community Health Center in Kono District, Sierra Leone. Sickle cell anemia is a disorder that affects the red blood cells (makes them sickle-shaped instead of round). Sickle-shaped blood cells don't zip easily around the body the way round cells do and they obstruct blood and oxygen flow. Young patients with sickle cell anemia come to #AdamaMarthaCHC on a monthly basis to receive free care, medications, and vitamins, which help them avoid sickle cell-related health crises that are painful and require more intensive medical intervention. The sickle cell clinic helps children and young adults manage this disease so that they can lead healthy, pain-free lives.
